Oh... I found this asleep in the back seat...

Orangeburg,SC

While Aaron, Gracie and Logie went to the mountains with my parents, Rachel and I did a little work around the house.

At first I THOUGHT I was going to work on a new marketing plan but I was quickly twarted by my wife… We started out just taking some old toys that my wonderful children tore up to the dump… After we got done, we were kinda thirsty so we took a ride to Goose Creek. Thats were my weekend started. WOWSER!

SOOOoo. After we hit Hardee’s in GC, we took I-26 up and exited just past Holly Hill, took a right on 178 and went through quite a few NEAT little towns Like Bowman, Rosinville and Harleyville… It was a really inspiring drive!!! I had been through Rosinville before (and didn’t know it) but never Bowman. We came across field after field of dried up corn fields, and peanut fields. We saw quite a few REALLY old broken down tractors that looks like someone just got off them and left them there to rot in the weather. It’s sad really. Some of the conditions that people live in was… well.. rough. But then there was the other side of the spectrum. REALLY nice places at the end of long driveways..

The town of Bowman was a really cool place, It was a sleepy little town with a tractor for sale on the main road going through town. Quite a bit different from what we see in Charleston… As we made our way through Bowman, We ended up in Orangeburg. I had never been to Orangeburg, So I was quite thrilled to be there and see it.

As we went through the center of town it had the feel of a midwestern town that had seen the depression. Have you ever seen the movie “Cars”? That is what I got a feeling of. Except on a larger scale. Building that were 5-6 stories tall with the windows boarded up, graffiti in the alleys, rusted up exit stairs bolted to the side of the buildings, paintings peeling of the side of building that looks like it was painted back in the 50’s. Looks like I found a location for a TTD session. *grin* In the center of town was a memorial for the people who fought and died in the Civil war, a fountain, a large statue, and nicely done brickwork inbeded in the ground. It was really nice and refreshing, considering the condition the decay if the town that surrounded it. After looking around and spending about 20 min photographing the area, We took off back towards the house, only to return the next day…

On Sunday we returned to the same spot and I got some images that I TOTALLY screwed up the previous day, and then we goofed off some more and ended up at Edisto Memorial Gardens… That place is WAYYY flippin cool!!! Even in the heat of the day, (If you are alive, you know how hot it is…) once we crossed into the gardens We felt the temp drop quite a bit. The gardens are situated next to the ediso river with tall Cypress trees blocking the heat and keeping the cool in. It was SOOOooo green, that it blew my mind! Once we got to the boardwalk, we came up on a “waterwheel” that was floating in the river (tied to the riverbank to keep it from floating away) and it was turning, and looked like it was working although Rachel and I failed to find exactly what it was doin… Shortly after we left the water wheel Lauren falls 3 foot off the boardwalk and lands on her back :-( and cuts our tour short…. Dangit… Poor thing. Yep she’s fine, and I bet you she will NEVER forget it.

So that’s what we did on our weekend off… What did you do?

It would be very interesting to know if it happened...
